About Katon
About Me
Katon Abnar Behbahani, MA, LPC, LCMHC, NCC
I am an integrative therapist. I don’t take a one-size-fits-all approach.
I draw from different frameworks including Cognitive, Relational, Psychodynamic, Gestalt, and Mindfulness-based approaches depending on what fits you. Therapy is centered on you as a whole person.
How I Approach Therapy
I pay attention to emotional, relational, and developmental patterns and how your experiences have shaped the way you move through the world.
Together, we work to understand those patterns, process what feels unresolved, and create space for something different.
The work is structured enough to provide direction, but flexible enough to respond to what you need.
Supervision
I provide supervision to Professional Counseling Associates and Marriage and Family Therapy Associates that is multicultural, relational, and with an expressive arts focus.
My approach integrates cultural awareness, relational depth, and creative process. I enjoy working with associates who are interested in thoughtful, developmentally grounded work across the lifespan.
Cultural Identity
I’m an Iranian American therapist, and cultural identity is an important part of how I understand people and their experiences.
Middle Eastern and North African identities are often simplified or misunderstood. Many people move through systems that don’t fully reflect their lived experience.
I approach my work as a psychotherapist with cultural humility and an awareness of how identity, context, and systems of power shape our lives.
Family and Lived Experience
I’m also a wife and a mother of three.
That experience has deepened my understanding of caregiving, responsibility, and the complexity of holding multiple roles especially within immigrant and culturally diverse families.
Many of the people I work with are navigating similar dynamics: caring for others while trying to stay connected to themselves.
What It’s Like to Work With Me
Therapy with me is collaborative and grounded.
It should feel like a real conversation that is supportive, but also focused and intentional.
We will:
stay connected to what you want from therapy
move at a pace that feels manageable
work toward meaningful, lasting change
Fit Matters
I’m not the right therapist for everyone and that’s intentional.
I work best with people who are ready to engage in the process and are looking for something more focused and thoughtful.
If it doesn’t feel like a good fit, I will help you find someone who is.
